In Healing Earth, we discuss three ethical foundations. One of these is, environmental sustainability, which we define as the use of a natural resource only if it can stay healthy and functional in its ecosystem and be abundant enough for future generations.

This year’s Olympics in Paris attempted to put this ethical foundation into practice by promoting environmental sustainability and prudence. The Games could provide an alternative environmentally conscious standard for future major events, ranging from waste reduction by reutilizing buildings to transforming public spaces and transportation. Aligned with the moral virtue, prudence, the article notes, “In tune with the 2015 Paris agreement on climate, this is an Olympics of repair and reuse.”

However, there is still major opportunity for growth amongst their sustainable initiatives despite the tremendous progress they’ve made.
